Sometimes the most meaningful reminders of God’s love appear in unexpected moments.

On Monday, during a historic blizzard that blanketed New York City with heavy snow, a simple act of kindness captured the attention of many people online. Sidewalks were blocked and streets were difficult to pass, and in the middle of the storm an elderly woman with a cane was struggling to make her way along a snow-covered path.

A woman noticed the struggle and did something small but powerful. She knelt down in the snow and began clearing a path with her gloved hands so the elderly woman could move forward safely. Then she gently helped guide her across the difficult stretch of sidewalk. The moment was captured on video and shared widely, and many people online have been calling her a “Good Samaritan.”

That phrase comes directly from a story Jesus told. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, several people passed by someone who was in need, but one person stopped. The Samaritan noticed the situation, showed compassion, and helped when it mattered. Jesus used that story to teach us what love for our neighbour really looks like.

In many ways, that is exactly what people saw in this moment during the storm. It wasn’t dramatic or planned. It was simply someone noticing another person who needed help and choosing to act. It likely slowed her down and came with inconvenience, but it was a decision made out of love and care for a stranger.

Sometimes we think living out our faith means doing something big or extraordinary. But very often, the way we reflect Christ is through simple moments of kindness, patience, and compassion. The Bible reminds us: “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3:18).

Each day we have opportunities to reflect Christ’s love. Let’s act on it through encouragement, through helping someone who is struggling, and through noticing people others might pass by.

This week, perhaps God is inviting us to slow down and notice the people around us. Who are they? What are they carrying? What are their needs? We are all in need of a Saviour, and someone might come to know Him through the way we show love. Let’s not let that moment pass us by.

God’s blessing for you and your family.
