We have come to the end of our 10 days of prayer, and I hope that you feel renewed and empowered to restore your altar of worship to the Lord. On the 10th day, the greatest challenge and call was put forth – are you empowered to go and finish the work? Ultimately, isn’t reaching others for Jesus the most important desire of the follower of Jesus? Does your heart hurt for people that don’t know about the gospel of Jesus? In the Old Testament, the Prophet Isaiah had such a special revelation of God’s grace that when God asked, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Isaiah immediately responded, “Here am I! send me”. Maybe the secret to an empowered attitude is a Spirit-filled encounter with God. An encounter so powerful that we realise our inadequacy and limitations in the presence of an all perfect and loving God. How wonderful would it be to have such an encounter with God daily? The reality is that we can, we can encounter God and grow in Him as we spend time in conversation with Him, when we make time to immerse ourselves in His Word and when we wholeheartedly make it our mission to go and make Jesus known.
In the New Testament, God put it this way through the words of Jesus; “Follow me”. Those two words together form a command found thirteen times in the Gospels. With these words Jesus called Peter, Andrew, James, and John. And with these same words Jesus calls all of us – Will you follow me?
Follow Me is detaching from personal interest.
Follow Me is turning away from sin.
Follow Me is living a new way.
Follow Me is becoming a new creation.
Follow Me is living for others.
Follow Me is becoming a servant.
Follow Me is a call to obedience.
Follow Me is more than an invitation.
Follow Me is being transformed.
Follow Me is seeking the lost.
Follow Me is going where Jesus is calling.
Follow Me is having a powerful encounter with Jesus.
Jesus bids us all “come and follow me”, will we follow in the footsteps of Isaiah, Peter, John and all the disciples before us? I pray that our answer every day would be “Here I am Lord, send me!”.
