Happy Sabbath Church Family,
When was the last time you felt genuine joy? Not merely happiness, but the deep sense of gratitude and peace that lifts your heart. Joy is one of God's greatest gifts. It doesn't require perfect circumstances, a full bank account, or a trouble-free life. Instead, it invites us to pause and remember who God is and how faithfully He continues to care for us.
I was recently reminded of this through a short video. A young musician placed a chair on a busy city sidewalk with a handwritten sign that read, “Sit here if you're having a bad day and listen to this song.” At first, people hurried past, focused on their schedules and responsibilities. But eventually, a few stopped and sat down. As they listened through the headphones, their faces lit up with smiles. The song was an encouraging song of praise to God, emphasising letting go of stress and rest and celebrate with He who holds the future. For a brief moment, their worries gave way to joy.
The musician wasn't offering solutions to their problems. He wasn't promising an easier life. He was simply creating a moment for people to stop, breathe, and remember that goodness and joy is available through Christ.
Throughout the week, life can become crowded with deadlines, responsibilities, concerns, and endless distractions. We move from one task to another, often carrying burdens that weigh heavily on our minds. Then Sabbath arrives as God's weekly gift of joy. It is an opportunity to step away from the noise and remember that we are more than our schedules and responsibilities. We are God's beloved children.
The words of the old hymn I Know Who Holds Tomorrow capture this beautifully:
"Many things about tomorrow I don't seem to understand; but I know who holds tomorrow, and I know who holds my hand."
What a wonderful reminder for us today. We may not know what tomorrow or next week will bring. We may not have answers to every question or solutions to every challenge. But we know the One who walks beside us. We know the Creator who looked upon His creation and called it "very good." We know the Saviour who invites us to rest in His presence.
As we enter yet another weekend, may we embrace the gift of Sabbath joy. May we find delight in God's creation, encouragement in fellowship, and peace in His promises. Let us slow down enough to notice His blessings, share a smile with someone around us, and celebrate the goodness of the God who holds our future securely in His hands.
May your heart be refreshed, your spirit renewed, and your life filled with joy.
Blessings and prayers, Malin Andersen
